Saturday 22nd January 12.30pm-5pm at Partick Burgh Halls
Right to the City Forum has been running events since last summer exploring ideas of community activism, spaces for discussion and our right to define our own lives.
This time, as an Education Forum, Right to the City will be focusing on the current education movement and its broader implications. The local and the transnational, the current delivery of education and potential changes, debt as a way of disciplining people, and whatever other ideas you wish to bring.
This event is open to all with an interest.
Partick Burgh Halls is just off Dumbarton road, Partick, only two minutes from Partick rail and Subway lines: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=55.87129974%2C-4.30905008
This event is hosted by Strickland Distribution http://www.strickdistro.org/.
“The recent response to the marketisation of higher education has given a voice and a collective identity to a discontent stretching beyond funding constraints. It is now time to respond as well as create, looking for new action and dialogue for the future. We want to open up debate, not close it down.’
I would be interested in coming to the forum.
I would be very interested in coming to the forum on Sat.22nd Jan.
i declare my intention to attend the forum and would like to urge you Simon Gallers to attend also. There should be more detailed info available in the next 2 days but your welcome to ask any questions out to all here.
thankyou

2. Right to the City: Education Forum
Time 22 January · 12:30 – 17:00
Location Partick Burgh Halls

Glasgow, United Kingdom

The local and the transnational, the current delivery of education and potential changes, debt as a way of disciplining people, and whatever other ideas you wish to bring.
This event is open to all with an interest. It is an opportunity to meet other like-minds to discuss the deep political implications of how the education system manages potential.
We are making an attempt ‘re-imagining the school and the university’ – fighting for what education should be not just preserving what it currently is.

“The question of what kind of city we want cannot be divorced from that of what kind of social ties, relationship to nature, lifestyles, technologies and aesthetic values we desire. The right to the city is far more than the individual liberty to access urban resources: it is a right to change ourselves by changing the city.” David Harvey
